¡ñ     Printing products are one kind of information carrier. Printing can be seen as a service, serving almost all fields from politics, economy, military, science & technology, culture and education£¬news & publication, etc., to people¡¯s daily life. Every one of the people needs the services of printing. In China, with the development of market economy, printing has become increasingly important and more dependent to the economy. It is proper to say, the printing industry is growing simultaneously with the economy. So firstly I introduce some data about China¡¯s economy.

China¡¯s national economy is expanding rapidly and steadily

¡ñ     Diagram 1, the GDP of China. In the last 10 years, China¡¯s economy has been increasing quickly and steadily. In 2005, China¡¯s GDP was 18232.1billion RMB Yuan with an annual growth rate of 9.9%.

¡ñ    Diagram 2, the import and export of China. In 2005, China had 762 billion USD for export and 660.1 billion USD for import. The export was slightly higher than the import. China already became the third largest export and import country in the world.

The development of printing industry in China

The statistic data (of the Mainland of China only) are collected and gathered by Printing & Printing Equipment Industries Association of China (PEIAC).

˜   Diagram 3, the turnover of China¡¯s printing industry. In the last 10 years, China¡¯s printing industry has been developing rapidly with an annual growth rate of more than 10%, and in 2005 alone the turnover of printing reached 310 billion RMB Yuan. Actually there were 90,000 printing enterprises and companies in China with 3.9 million employees.

l         Diagram 13-2, the import and export of plate. In 2005. The volume of plate for export was 24.68 million M², while that for import was152 million M², The export was much more than the import.

l         Diagram 13-3, the import and export of CTP plate. In 2005, the import was 3.576 million square meters, while the export was 965 thousand square meters.

l         Diagram 14-1, the production and consumption of film. In 2005, 10 million M²were produced, while 70 million M²were consumed.

l         Diagram 14-2, the import and export of film. In 2005, the import of film to China was 75.79 million M²,while The export was 16.2 million M². The import to China was much higher than the export from China.

l        Diagram 15-1, the production and consumption of ink. In 2005, the production of ink was 300 thousand tons and its consumption was 325 thousand tons.

l         Diagram 15-2, the import and export of ink. In 2005, China imported 47.2 thousand tons of ink and exported 23.8 thousand tons.

l        Diagram 16-1, the production and consumption of paper and cardboard. In 2005, the production was 55 million tons, while China consumed 60 million tons.

l         Diagram 16-2, the import and export of paper and cardboard. In 2005, China imported 5.25 million tons of paper and cardboard while it exported only 1.94 million tons. The import is much more than the export.

l       Diagram 17, the paper and cardboard consumed per capita. In China in 2005, the consumption of paper and cardboard per capita is 46 kg. In developed countries, the consumption of paper and cardboard is about 330 kg per capita, while in China it is only 46 kg per capita which represents 1 eighth of the former. This shows that the market expansion of China¡¯s printing industry has enormous potentialities. Obviously, there is a large space to move up and a great potential to work out for China printing industry.

The Future of Development of China¡¯s Printing Industry

l         The tendency in general: Digitizing, Networking, diversification and quickness.

Digitizing, networking----Digital and network technology will penetrate

the industry even far and wide;

Diversification ----The color and type of printing products will be developed;

Quickness----Quick printing at request and streamlined delivery is a new goal of the printers.

l         Development in Technology

1.        CTP technology is becoming more matured;

2.        Digital printing and network printing will be developed rapidly;

3.        Offset printing still dominates the market;

4.        Inkjet printing will have a relatively quick development;

5.        Screen printing, flexo-printing and gravure printing will advance adequately.

l       Development in Regions

Coastal areas, three printing industrial bases have already taken shape in coastal areas, they are,

1. ¡°Pearl River Delta¡±----Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao with Guangzhou, Dongguan, Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Macao as its core centers.

2.  ¡°Yanzi River Delta¡±----Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujiang and Taiwan with Shanghai as its center.

3.      ¡°Around Bohai Region¡±----Shandong, Hebei, Liaoning, Beijing, Tianjin with Beijing and Tianjin as its centers.

These three bases are the foundations of China¡¯s printing, as on these bases the printing industry of China will develop rapidly.

Inland areas, along with the great developing drive of the West of China, the reviving of Northeast old industrial base and the growing-up of the Mid-China regions, the printing industry inland will advance adequately.

1.        West region---12 provinces----Great Opening up;

2.        Northeast region----Heilongjiang, Jilin and Liaoning provinces-----Reviving;

3.        Mid-China region---Shanxi, Henan, Hubei, Hunan, Anhui and Jiangxi Provinces----Growing up.

l       Printing Exhibitions

There are many printing exhibitions in China; only two of them are international and most important. They are CHINA PRINT and PRINT CHINA.

China Print (Beijing International Printing Technology Exhibition) is the most famous international printing exhibition in China. Since 1984, China Print has been celebrated once every four years. China Print 2005 already took place in May 11-15, 2005, during, 996 enterprises coming from 24 countries or regions took part in the event with their products, they occupied 92,500 square meters of exhibition area, and more than 160,000 visitors attended the show. China Print 2009 will open at newly-built China International Exhibition Center, the exhibition areas of which will exceed 120,000 square meters. More than 1000 exhibitors will show their products at the exhibition, and more than160,000 visitors will visit the event.

Print China, International Printing Technology exhibition of China (in Guangdong), will celebrate once every four years in springtime at Guangdong Modern Exhibition Center (GMEC). Guangdong Province alone dominates one third among the production value of national printing industry, the Pearl River Delta (including the main part of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao) has been becoming an international printing base; Guangdong, locating in the center of Asia and neighboring Southeast Asia, is going to be an essential component of ¡°10 Plus 1¡± Economic Free Trade Zone. In this region a large sized international exhibition is demanded by the printing market. PEIAC, CIEC and GDPA (Guangdong Printing Association) decided to hold Print China 2007 at GMEC, Dongguan, Guangdong province on April 10-14£¬2007. Dongguan is a newly developed city between Guangzhou and Shenzhen. We will invite exhibitors extensively from all over the world to exhibit their products at the exhibition, and at the same time we will call on all clients and professional visitors from Southeast Asia, South Asia, Australia, Middle East, all China (including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) to visit this event. Print China 2007 will be a tremendous printing show with a large sized exposition (75,000 M²) and an excellent effectiveness.
